Eight suburbs, eight different jobs
Tree work in the Sutherland Shire changes completely depending on which part of it you are standing in. The coastal strip deals with salt and constant wind. The bushland fringe deals with bushfire asset protection zones and 10/50 entitlements. The older inner suburbs deal with sixty-year-old plantings that have outgrown quarter-acre blocks, and with driveways that no longer fit modern equipment.

What is the same everywhere
One council, one set of rules. Sutherland Shire Council's tree management controls apply across the whole local government area, so the approval question is answered the same way wherever you are: is the tree exempt, protected, or arguable. Frequently asked questions
Which council covers all these suburbs?
Sutherland Shire Council covers the entire area listed on this page, so one set of tree management controls applies from Sylvania to Heathcote and out to Menai. That makes the approval path consistent, but it does not make the trees or the access consistent — a Cronulla dune block and a Menai sandstone ridge have almost nothing in common.
Do you charge more to travel to outer suburbs?
No travel surcharge applies inside the Shire. Crews work the whole local government area routinely, and the driving difference between Kirrawee and Heathcote does not change a quote. What does change a quote is access, and that varies street by street rather than suburb by suburb.
My suburb is not listed — do you still cover it?
Almost certainly. The pages here cover the eight suburbs we are asked about most, and the list underneath covers the rest of the Shire. If you are anywhere between Sylvania Waters and Waterfall, or on the Menai and Illawong side of the Woronora, ring and ask. Areas immediately outside the Shire boundary are handled case by case.
